Essential Fatty Acids
The omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), plus the omega-6 fatty acid gamma-Linolenic acid (GLA) are commonly referred to as essential fatty acids. EPA and DHA are abundant in fish. GLA is a component of Evening Primrose oil. They are important structurally in the body, as well as influencing eicosanoid synthesis such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
